Born and raised in East London, Onyx is a self-taught artist whose practice emerged from an extraordinary and transformative chapter of his life. After an accident left him in a coma for several weeks, he spent a year in recovery, a period that revealed art to him as both a lifeline and a language. Creating sculptural works became a form of therapy, a way to process the profound revelations and subconscious insights he experienced during his time in hospital. What could have been a tragedy became the beginning of a life-altering mission: to create.

“A memory of the future is only possible if you have been there,” Onyx says. His artworks reflect this belief, guiding viewers into an imagined dystopian future shaped from fragments of the past. He constructs abstract realities from found and discarded objects, transforming them from simple toys or classical figures into vessels of deeper memory. Each piece becomes a layered landscape of stories, shaped by metamorphosis, rebirth and the blurred boundary between what is familiar and what is unknown.

Onyx’s fascination with found materials fuels his desire to create moments from our future using tiny remnants of our past. Through every element he assembles, he invites the viewer on a personal journey, one that draws them into his alternative reality and encourages introspection, discovery and emotional resonance.

Presented within gleaming perspex display cases, his works appear as artefacts from the near future. Bound together in luminous gold chrome, Onyx’s intricate assemblages radiate with a striking, metallic presence, embodying both transformation and transcendence.
