Biography

Jean-Yves Tabourot is a French contemporary artist whose work fuses the precision of engineering with fine art. Having been born in France in 1968 and based in the United Kingdom since 1998, he now works from the heart of the UK’s renowned “Motorsport Valley”, Oxfordshire, home to major automotive and motorsport names.

Before devoting himself entirely to art, Jean-Yves spent many years in high-performance automotive / motorsport engineering, notably working for Williams F1 and on projects including the Jaguar C‑X75.

His lived experience in motorsport informs every aspect of his creative practice.

Central to his work is the belief, borrowed from car-historian Brian Sewell, that “motor racing is like art; both are about describing a line.”

Tabourot applies this concept masterfully: through bold blocks of colour and refined detail, he captures the essence of iconic automobiles, their form, their personality, their legacy.

Jean-Yves now dedicates his practice to commissioned original paintings for classic car owners, automotive brands and enthusiasts. In addition to these bespoke originals, his portfolio also features limited-edition giclée prints on premium Hahnemühle 310 gsm etching paper, each print numbered, signed and produced with the same respect for line and detail.

With a studio rooted in the epicentre of UK motorsport, Jean-Yves Tabourot is uniquely placed to merge his technical background and artistic vision into works that appeal to collectors of both fine art and automotive heritage. Whether you own a cherished car or simply dream of one, his paintings offer an opportunity to encapsulate that passion into a meaningful work of art.

Bugatti Baby II

The Baby II is a 75% scale, fully electric reinterpretation of the iconic Bugatti Type 35, meticulously recreated from a complete 3D scan of an original 1924 French Grand Prix vehicle. This custom-finished Bugatti Baby II is a unique, hand-painted piece commissioned by Hedley Studios.

The design draws inspiration from a Goodwood painting I completed in 2023, featuring an E-Type during the 2022 Stirling Moss Trophy Revival. The stripes symbolize speed and are color-matched to the hues of the Goodwood stands and surrounding trees. Influences for the artwork include the Art Deco period, art car pioneer Sonia Delaunay, and my deep admiration for abstract artist Bridget Riley, particularly her works ‘Nataraja’ and ‘Evoë,’ which left a profound impression on me when first seen at the Tate Museum.
