Biography
Originally from the Cotswolds, Ben Lee is a contemporary metal sculptor celebrated for transforming reclaimed materials, particularly horseshoes, into striking, expressive artworks. Through his practice, Ben gives new life to objects once defined by strength and motion, reimagining them into enduring pieces that capture resilience, beauty, and transformation. Each sculpture tells a story of renewal, honouring the history embedded in every material he uses.
With a background rooted in working closely with horses, Ben developed a profound respect for the craftsmanship and symbolism behind each shoe. What once carried power and purpose across miles now becomes the foundation for sculptures that balance strength with elegance. His work includes both figurative creations, such as equine-inspired forms and the celebrated Stargazing Hare, and abstract garden sculptures that reflect harmony between nature and metal.
Ben’s artistic journey began in a creative family, his father a clockmaker and his mother an artist, where he learned the value of precision, patience, and imagination. This heritage informs his approach today, merging technical skill with a deep appreciation for organic form and texture. Each sculpture is hand-forged and intuitively shaped, ensuring that no two pieces are ever the same.
From private commissions to large-scale public installations, BL Sculptures has become synonymous with craftsmanship and innovation. Ben’s work invites viewers to see beauty in transformation, to appreciate how materials with a past can be reborn as timeless art, destined to inspire for generations to come.
